Odd Side Ales: The Bar
Multimedia and story by Emily Brouwer
Long before Odd Sides opened its doors, the building it resides in used to be the Story and Clark Piano factory. Opening in 1900, Hampton L. Story and Melville Clark made a deal with the city of Grand Haven, getting $20,000 and 10 acres of land in return for hiring 100 people in the following three years. Over the next 50 years, three more additions to the building were made. In 1984, the doors to the factory were closed and since the building has been renovated to house apartments, restaurants, and shops.
In this old piano factory sits a pub where people come to relax and have a cold one. Odd Side Ales is located in Grand Haven right by the Grand River.

Odd Side opened its doors in March of 2010 and has been growing ever since. They started with an on site brewing system and have now moved to a bigger off site facility. They are known for their variety of more eccentric beers such as Banana Hammock, Mayan Mocha Stout, Java Chip and Wheatermelon.
There are always new brews going on at the brewery. Currently Odd Side Ales is using bourbon barrels, 30-year-old tequila barrels and even white and red wine barrels to give different flavors to their beers.
The pub also offers patrons the choice to get something of a tester platter to try out the different types of beer that they have. Something else that is very unique about Odd Side is their mug club. Unlike other places that have just a mug with a number on it, the price of joining includes going to the Lakes Mall and decorating your own mug at Your Plate or Mine.
